Financial adviser Kim Butwell will discuss identity theft protection at a Millbrook Rotary Club luncheon from 12:15-1:30 p.m. April 14 at the Millbrook Carriage House, 18 Alden Place, Millbrook, NY in the village.

Butwell, of Wealth Management Solutions at Merrill Lynch in Poughkeepsie, will cover topics such as: What is personal information? How can theft happen? What should you do if your information is stolen?

This talk is open to everyone. Lunch is $14.

Jeff Lanza's identity theft prevention seminar is Wednesday from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Edgewood Cinemas, 5220 S. 56th St., Lincoln, NE. The event is free and open to the public, but the Better Business Bureau asks that you call (800) 649-6814, Ext. 8600, to make reservations.

Identity theft is on the rise, both in Nebraska and nationally, which means Jeff Lanza has plenty of work left to do.

The retired FBI special agent, who spent more than 20 years fighting white-collar crime, now spends his days educating people about identity theft.

BBB is hosting "Secure Your ID" Day on April 17, 2010. The local shredding event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the parking lot of Coastal Federal Credit Union, located off Wake Forest Road at 1000 St. Albans Drive, Raleigh, NC 27609.

Participants are encouraged to bring up to three boxes or bags of documents that have been removed from binders. At the event, BBB and other partner organizations will provide tips and resources to help consumers protect their identity. Event information is available at www.easternnc.bbb.org/secure-your-id.

The co-sponsors for this event are OnTrack Financial Education & Counseling and American Security Shredding. Residents and small businesses are encouraged to attend the event and take a key step in identity protection by shredding and properly disposing of their sensitive documents. BBB staff will be on-site to provide expert advice and tips for identity theft protection.

After tax season, many people are left flooded with such papers. However, two libraries in the county have a solution.

The Mendham Township Library, at the corner of Cherry Lane and West Main Street, Brookside, NJ will hold "Shredder Day'' in the library parking lot from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, to raise money for its facility.

The Watertown Lions Club in Connecticut, in conjunction with LaBonnes Market of Watertown, and "U Shred it" Company of Cheshire, will hold its third annual "Shred it" project from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, April 17.

This project is to help protect one's identity and to prevent individuals from gaining personal information from improper discarding of personal info such as old bank or credit card statements, old tax returns, medical forms and any other personal accumulated material.

For the sixth year in a row, Community West Bank is hosting its FREE Identity Theft Protection and Shredding event on Tuesday, April 27th, 11am-1pm at its Ventura branch, 1463 South Victoria Avenue, Ventura, CA, near the 99¢ Store.

This year, the Bank challenges members of the community to bring “TWO BOXES and TWO CANS”. Bring two boxes of personal documents for shredding in the on-site ShredRite truck and bring a minimum of two cans of food for FOOD Share, Ventura County’s food bank.

The Walla Walla Asset Building Coalition will present "Identity Theft, Fraud, You: A Public Discussion" on Tuesday, with a light pizza supper starting at 6 p.m. Child care will be provided, but seating and pizza are limited.

The free event takes place at the YWCA, 213 S. First Ave., Walla Walla, WA, and will feature Bonnie Bowton of Banner Bank, city police Detective Sgt. Matt Wood and Deana York, director of the Impact Program at Walla Walla Community College.

On Tuesday, May 4, Bergen County Sheriff Leo P. McGuire will conduct a presentation on identity theft for senior citizens at the Lyndhurst Senior Center.

Sheriff McGuire will discuss the various forms of identity theft, and highlight ways in which residents can protect themselves from becoming victims.

The presentation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Lyndhurst Senior Center, located at 250 Cleveland Avenue in Lyndhurst, New Jersey.

The state Attorney General’s Office is sponsoring a community shredding day on Saturday in Wilmington, Delaware; the first of three such events statewide.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Frawley Stadium parking lot at 801 Shipyard Drive.

“Shredding documents with personal identifying information is an important precaution consumers should take to reduce their risk of becoming victims of identity theft,” said state Attorney General Beau Biden.

Police invite the public to shred away worries of identity theft with an event planned at Cleveland Mall, Shelby, NC.

Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, members of the community are encouraged to bring personal and confidential documents to Cleveland Mall. PROSHRED Security will destroy them free of charge in a mobile shredding truck.

No need to remove binder covers, binder clips, or staples because PROSHRED's industrial shredders will easily cut through them. All shredded documents will be recycled.
