State Rep. Kate Segal, D-Battle Creek, will host a workshop discussing identity theft protection from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Forks Senior Center, 1418 Cooper Street, Albion, MI.
The guest panel will include Karen Booth, Adult Protective Services Supervisor with the Michigan Department of Human Services, and Detective Sgt. Richard Michael of the Michigan State Police Southeast Criminal Investigation Division Identity Theft Team.
Another workshop is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, March 29, at Burnham Brook Center, 200 W. Michigan Ave., Battle Creek.
El Paseo Bank will sponsor "Shred It Day" to help area residents combat identity theft.
Area residents can take paper, file folders, binders and envelopes to be shredded for free.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Marketplace, 39-580 Washington St., Palm Desert, CA. Participants are limited to three file boxes, about the size that copy paper is sold in.
The bank is encouraging participants to make a charitable donation to Children's Discovery Museum of the Desert, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the First Tee.

Hartle is an expert on identity theft. He is responsible for the laws passed in Washington, D.C., regarding this crime. He continues to watch the laws on ID theft and travels to the Capitol to testify. He and his wife were victims.
The public will hear his experience and how to avoid becoming a vicitm. Free packets will be given to help people learn how to prevent this crime.

The city of Palm Coast will host an informative identity theft seminar on Thursday. It will begin at 1 p.m. at the Palm Coast Community Center on Palm Coast Parkway Northeast.
Captain Mark Carman of the Sheriff's office will educate community members on protecting themselves against credit card fraud.
