For the second year, Kansas Attorney General Steve Six is hosting a consumer summit in Topeka, KS during National Consumer Protection Week (the first week of March).
The summit will focus on educating consumers on common scams, identity theft, foreclosure, lending and much more. The summit will also provide education for consumer professionals.
“Each year, thousands of Kansans contact my office seeking help with identity theft, scams, or fraud,” Six said. “We do our best to provide assistance, but in some cases education is the best way to help prevent future problems. This summit seeks to give consumers the tools they need to protect themselves.”
In addition to sessions on preventing elder abuse, durable power of attorney, and identity theft, Barbara Rubel, an author and noted social worker will be the keynote speaker.
The summit will be March 3, 2010, from 9:00a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is free to participants with breakfast and lunch provided. Social work CEU credit is available on completion of the workshop.
To register to attend the summit, please contact (785) 368-6646 by Feb. 4, 2010.
The Attorney General will also host two student consumer workshops and ten shred-a-thon events across the state in honor of National Consumer Protection Week.
