Identity Theft Forum

04/05/2010 - 11:30am

The office of U.S. Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) will hold an identity theft forum at 11:30 a.m. April 5 at the Coppell Senior Center, 345 W. Bethel Road, Coppell, TX.

“I am looking forward to the program,” said Laci McKinney, director of the Coppell Senior Center. “It will be an educational forum so people can learn about identity theft.”

Lunch will be provided for seniors at 11:30 a.m. followed by the forum at 12 p.m.

“This is a project our office has undertaken,” said Matt Jack, communications director for Marchant’s office in Irving. “It’s a way for us to help educate our senior citizens about the issue of identity theft.”

Identity theft is plaguing the senior citizen community around the nation, Jack said.

There will be two guest speakers at the event.

Former FBI agent David Leopard will speak about the necessary measures to prevent identity theft. Besides being a former FBI agent, Leopard has also been a corporate security executive.

Following Leopard’s presentation, Officer RJ Harr of the Coppell Police Department will describe how identity theft is affecting the local community.

“Right now about 30 people have already registered for the forum,” Jack said. “We are hoping to publicize a little bit more to get a larger crowd.”

He added that if there were only 30 people they would be happy serve them.

Senior citizens who wish to attend and have lunch should call the Coppell Senior Center to make a reservation at 972-462-9635.
